Hell
Well the past couple days have been rough. I stayed in some cheapo hotel that is pretty gross, but I just needed SOMEWHERE to stay. So let me write my story to you. So I get on the plane around 10:30 for London and we leave around 11. I was like hmm I told Carly I would watch P.S. I love You and so I started to. But it made me think about everyone and how much I was going to miss them, I had to turn it off. It was just too sad. I threw my blanket over my head because I was getting choked up. Anyways so I try to sleep, but don’t really get any because everytime I am close the plane would get bumpy. So we land and I am super tired. I get my stuff and head to U.K. customs. The guy wanted proof that I was studying abroad, an itinerary, a schedule, anything. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any. So he yelled at me and said he was going to deport me. Then just got mad and let me through. So I go to baggage claim, and of course, my bag doesn’t come through. So I wait in line or 30 minutes and they say they will call my flat if they find it. So I’m like whatever. There is a direct train from the airport to downtown so I jumped on it. It was nice, it was an express train, which means there are no stops. So I get to the station and am again, completely lost, so I follow people that were on the train and find the outside. I walk around, not having a single clue where I am, when I stumble across a park. I decide maybe I can get some internet and talk to people. So I did and through Verizon’s website I sent brock a text and told him to get online. I talked to him and Cj and then Carly just for a bit, when my laptop died. So I was like I will book a room around here and get on the net there. So I am in this cheapo room and they don’t even offer internet here! THEN I didn’t have the UK power adapter so I had to walk around looking for it. So then I went to Oxford street, which is a lot like Michigan Ave. in Chicago except WAY more stores and stuff. I saw the Gucci, Louis Vitton, Prada, and a bunch of other names all in this building together. I got subway, which was really expensive and sat on a bench and ate. Coke is different in the UK. It tastes…like Pepsi haha. So I came back to my room after buying a ttoothbrush, paste, and chap stick and played the psp and guitar. What a day of hell. Once I get my luggage and move into my flat everything will be alright. Things are so busy here and exciting. I went to Hyde Park, which is a famous London Park and people in London play outside way more than in America. It was such a nice day today. I don’t know what the forecast for the rest of the week is, but today was nice. Moved in to my flat the other day and had a bus tour today. Met kids from NYU and Dartmouth and FSU and stuff. Still don't have my luggage. Haven't been able to add pictures. I am at an internet cafe and my time is up in 2 minutes. I will elaborate and post pictures later. wooo

I'm sorry you had such a hassle with the airlines. Customs didn't even ask me a single question. I think they sort of get lazy with people who don't speak their native language. You'd think it would be the opposite? Either that, or Spain's a lot more laid back than the UK. Either way.
I'm sorry to hear about the lost luggage, but Drew, things will be ok. When do you move into your flat? Did you have to book another place because you were coming early?
Just know that homesickness is COMPLETELY natural, especially the first few weeks. (Be glad they speak your language there). Things will get better though, Drew. I have hope that they will.
Know that I am thinking of you and praying for you and that we all love you.
I've been struggling too-- especially with Josh wanting to break up because it makes me feel extra alone here, but see it as a serious growing/maturing experience. I've also been really surprised (but completely delighted) so see so many people reach out to me with letters/emails/facebook inbox messages/blog comments/ etc. You'd be surprised how many people love you Drew. And we're not going to stop loving you while you're away. (only a select few people do that. heh. ok, maybe that was too soon. I have to laugh about it, right?)
I have a friend named Amy who's studying in London. She goes to Miami university but she's friends with Jessica Becker (the girl you met over summer; my friend from camp). Maybe I could give you her contact info and you two could meet up. It would be nice to have another person to talk to over there, and she's super nice.
In 3 weeks you'll be looking back at this and laughing. Once you conquer another country, you can conquer anything.
Be of good cheer!
